TruNorth Board of Directors Elects Board Chair

TruNorth Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors elected John Wallace as Board Chair following the retirement of Tom Skrenes in May.

John has been a member of TruNorth since 1975 and has been serving as a volunteer since 1996. He is a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and was stationed at the Southeast Asia Air Force Base of Korat in Thailand as a jet engine mechanic. John is also a lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of America and AMVETS Post 122 of Ishpeming. Following his military service, John began working for the City of Ishpeming while also attending Northern Michigan University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, he continued in dual employment with the city and his own businesses, Peninsula Photographic and Peninsula Screen Printing. After 26 1/2 years, John retired from the City of Ishpeming, but continues with his own businesses.

John currently serves on the Board of Directors, ALM/Investment Committee, Personnel Committee, Executive Committee, and Building Committee. He and his wife Karen reside in Tilden Township and together they have three grown children and three grandsons, who are also members of TruNorth.

When asked about his new role, John said, “I am proud to have been elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors. We have an outstanding group of individuals on the board that I have worked with as Vice Chair. Together we will strive to focus on the needs of our members and our community. We are responsible for the overall direction and policies of the credit union and will continue on that path to provide strategic direction and sound counsel to insure TruNorth remains on a strong path toward continued progress.”
