Human Resources Director

TruNorth Federal Credit Union in Ishpeming, MI is seeking a Human Resources Director to join their growing team. This is an exempt position. TruNorth Federal Credit Union is a $195 million credit union with 3 branch locations and over 40 employees. This is a newly created position that reports directly to the President/CEO providing guidance on the credit union’s strategic plan in regard to human resource activities and trends ensuring compliance with all State and Federal regulations. The Human Resources Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the human resources function with primary emphasis in areas of payroll and benefits administration, compensation administration, personnel management, employee performance evaluation, training and development administration, and development of policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

-Payroll administration including timely processing of payroll utilizing payroll processing system (currently ADP), review of employee timecards for accuracy, data entry of employee wage and deduction changes, and maintenance of PTO balances. Prepare the journal entry for the accounting department and file government reports as needed.

-Benefit administration for all employee benefit programs including health/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement programs, and leaves of absence. Counsel employees with benefit questions, plan and manage open enrollment, and resolve issues with various carriers as needed. Review benefit plans for cost effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements to meet credit union strategy.

-Compensation administration including classification of positions with appropriate salary matches, review of annual salary survey data making recommendations for salary adjustments, and preparation of the credit union personnel budget including forecasts based on projected staffing needs.

-Personnel management including recruiting and selecting quality applicants to fill vacancies, conducting orientation for new employees, conducting exit interviews for departing employees, develop and maintain performance appraisal management, and assist supervisors/management with disciplinary action as needed. Provide suggestions to improve recruitment/retention strategy and overall employee experience.

-Training and development administration including the creation and development of training programs, investigation of available training methods, preparation of training materials, conducting training, and evaluation of outsourced training vendors to augment internal training. Ensure employees complete required trainings.

-Personnel policy development and compliance including ensuring the personnel policy manual is compliant with current federal and state guidelines and provide counseling in regard to interpretation of policies for employees/supervisors. Maintain thorough and current knowledge of federal and state regulations keeping abreast of changes that needs to be incorporated into credit union policy and strategy.
